[LTER-education] question to the group - RET supplement and timing - RE: RET Supplements - Does your site plan to apply?

Hi all,

I am curious if anyone who is submitting their next LTER proposal to NSF to the upcoming RFP (March, 2020) is also submitting an RET supplement request next week?

Stupidly, I just wrote out the timeline for our proposed RET supplement request and realized that whoa, our LTER funding is ending October 31, 2021 so we can't propose to use supplement funds past that. We will be getting a no-cost extension...but not sure if we can discuss that in the supplement request. I typically ask for funding to support an RET for the summer and then pay out the last bit of their stipend once they've implemented in their classroom anytime during the schoolyear following. So please let me know if any of you have any creative advice for making this situation work. I have the teachers recruited and the request mostly written and I strongly believe they need the whole next schoolyear to be successful....

I have also emailed our LTER program officer, Doug Levy, but haven't heard back from him yet.

Thanks!

If you want to join the RET supplements call, please mark your calendars for Monday December 16th at 2-3pm EST. I realize that not everyone has responded, but we have 9 participants available at that time, so I think it is best to ahead and let everyone save the date. If others can join us, please let me know so that I can add you to any subsequent emails. *I meant to mention this on the first email: if someone beyond the EOC list is the best contact person at your site for RETs, please pass this invitation along.*

To make the best use of our time, I will send out an agenda (and Zoom link) on Friday or Monday. If you have suggestions for points of discussion, please let me know.

Thanks!
Cora

Subject: RET Supplements - Does your site plan to apply?

If your site is planning to apply for an RET supplement for 2020 and beyond, you might be interested in joining an EOC call to discuss individual site plans/goals and possibilities for cross-site initiatives. I'm sending out a scheduling request now in the hope that the majority of us can find a time to meet before the holiday so that any emerging cross-site components can be incorporated into proposals due in January.
Here is a poll to help with scheduling: https://doodle.com/poll/9uvzcq8zn72y2nfv

Whether or not you can (or care to) attend the group call, there are RET application resources in the EOC google drive under Working Groups --> Research Experiences --> RET. The LTER report copy in that folder includes recommendations for strengthening RET program effectiveness (thanks to Steven McGee of LUQ for reminding us of this).

If we find a time that works for most interested sites, I'll schedule a Zoom and share the link.

Thanks!
Cora
