*Sevilleta:* To discover how environmental change is affecting dryland
ecosystems, the National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded a five-year,
$6.4 million grant
<https://news.unm.edu/news/nsf-awards-6-4-million-grant-to-sevilleta-long-term-ecological-research-site>

Fellow of the Ecological Society of America (ESA)
<https://www.esa.org/esa/ecological-society-of-america-announces-2018-fellows/>.
Mike is Senior Scientist in the Biology Department and Director of the
Marine Policy Center at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. NES-LTER team
completed a trip this summer to the Martha’s Vineyard Coastal Observatory
(MVCO) to deploy the Imaging FlowCytobot (IFCB) to continue the greater
than 12 year time series <https://ifcb-data.whoi.edu/mvco>, and completed
the R/V Endeavor Summer 2018 Transect cruise.

*Northern Gulf of Alaska*: A new four-part series
<https://news.uaf.edu/sikuliaq-expands-ways-to-study-gulf-of-alaska-ecosystems/>
published on the University of Alaska Fairbanks News and Information
website features stories from one of the newest LTER sites, highlighting
research activities undertaken during the May 2018 research expedition on
the research vessel *Sikuliaq*. Alicia Rinaldi-Schuler, a fisheries
graduate student at CFOS who volunteered for NGA LTER’s *Spring 2018 cruise*
<https://nga.lternet.edu/field-work/sikuliaq-cruise-may-2018/> aboard *R/V

about her experience
<https://nga.lternet.edu/highlights/video-of-zooplankton-sampling/>.

*Beaufort Lagoon:* The new BLE-LTER site spent their first summer field
season establishing long-term study sites and taking their first
measurements of hydrology, chemistry, and microbial diversity in Alaskan
Arctic lagoons. Updates can be found on the BLE website
<https://ble.lternet.edu/> as well as on their very active Twitter account,
@ArcticLagoons.

*Konza Prairie:* John Blair, university distinguished professor of biology,
has been named the director of Kansas State University's Konza Prairie
Biological Station, while Jesse Nippert steps up to steer the Konza LTER.
Blair's appointment begins on July 16, and follows the retirement of John
Briggs, who served as the station director from 2008-2018. Also, an article
about grass response to drought, written by KNZ-LTER graduate student Emily
Wedel, was featured in Science Snapshots.

*California Current Ecosystem*: Scientists from CCE-LTER participated on
the P1706 process cruise this summer studying upwelling filaments off the
California Coast and produced a blog <http://cce.lternet.edu/blogs/201706/>
