Dear all,

For those who may be attending AGU in December, this is a nice opportunity
to get the word out about LTER.

If anyone is interested in doing this, please feel free to respond.

Thanks very much,

Cheryl

Subject: Request for AGU FM Public Affairs Submission
To: Linda Rowan <rowan at unavco.org>

We invite you to consider submitting an abstract to the following Public
Affairs session (PA013, described below). We hope that a very diverse range
of geoscientists will take up our challenge to communicate the value of
their research in a format that is effective with policymakers and the
public. Please note that you are allowed to submit an extra abstract to
Public Affairs (PA). So if you have or are considering submitting 2
abstracts in which you are the first author to other sections, you can
still submit one more to PA.

Whether the session is oral (with 5 minute talks) or posters (with posters
prepared for policymakers and the public) we would like researchers from
different disciplines and different career levels to present and discuss
science communication with policymakers. We hope you can consider a
submission, which would ensure a successful session. The early abstract
submission deadline is July 26 and the final deadline is August 2.

Thank you,

Linda, Maggie and Rebecca (co-conveners)

*PA013. How Does Your Geoscience Research Matter and Can You Explain How it
Matters to the Public?*

and *Rebecca

*Possible Alternate Format:* If this session is allocated an oral session,
the convener can choose to have lightning style presentations that are
quicker and more focused than a traditional session. *Learn more*

*Session ID#: *24142

*Session Description:*

You have five minutes to explain to a non-geoscientist what you do, what
discoveries you have made and why it matters. Are you ready to do this with
a presentation or without? This session seeks brief and easy to understand
descriptions via posters or lightning talks for outreach to the public and
stakeholders, such as policymakers, emergency managers and/or others. There
are no restrictions on your choice of words or images, but the presentation
should include some description about why the geoscience has value and what
that value is.
