I think they did an excellent job of proposing a balance between science and much needed logistics—not an easy task. It will be interesting to see if and how the recommendations are implemented.

I want to acknowledge some of our group’s contributions to this -
— Congratulations to Tina for helping to make this report a reality as one of the esteemed authors. I’m sure you are happy to have this completed, and you should be proud.
— Berry was involved with this by coordinating the peer review of the report.
— Everyone who participated in the many ‘traveling’ discussions that this group held (one at SCAR in Auckland last year)

Thanks for your service to the broader community.

I met with Scott Borg and Jessie Crain yesterday and Scott indicated that NSF is not going to move on this report right away; rather, they want to see the community discuss and develop some ideas for how to move forward with the recommendations from the report. NSF isn’t going to ignore this, but they don’t want to have a heavy-handed, top-down set of changes either. So, it is incumbent upon us to perhaps start some of that discussion, and develop (and perhaps promote) some ideas for moving forward.

Cheers
-Mike

Hi all,

Most of us know about, have been involved with, or maybe already have this, but here’s a link to the final published report:
http://dels.nas.edu/Report/Strategic-Vision-Investments/21741?bname=prb

NSF had an in-person briefing by part of the committee yesterday (I saw Robin et al. as I was leaving the building), and the online webinar starts in about 5 min.

Cheers
-Mike
