Dear All,

It is with the utmost respect, I share with you the news that Dr. Charles Buford Briscoe passed away a couple of weeks ago; while in Costa Rica.

Dr. Briscoe worked with ITF, approximately from 1958 to 1966.  He came to ITF from the Forestry Faculty of Louisiana State University.  While in Puerto Rico, he published a very detailed description of the weather of the Luquillo Mountains (now a more than 50 years old data set), and also started a pine spacing study.

Herty Barres, who served at ITF for about 2 years in the period of 1958-59 assisted Dr. Briscoe with the collection of mahogany seed provenances throughout Central America.

Dr. Briscoe's writings are all in the IITF library's posterity file.

Dr. Briscoe left us for a period of planting in Brazil and then taught at CATIE.  Dr. Wadsworth testifies that Dr. Briscoe led about 30 students while working in Puerto Rico, all with good research projects.

May Dr. Charles Buford Briscoe rest in peace.
