<div><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0); font-size: medium;">It is with the utmost respect, I share with you the news that Dr. Charles Buford Briscoe passed away a couple of weeks ago; while in Costa Rica.</span></div>
<div><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><br>
</span></div>
<div><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Dr. Briscoe worked with ITF, approximately from 1958 to 1966. He came to </span><span style="font-size: medium; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">ITF from the Forestry Faculty of Louisiana
State University. While in Puerto Rico, </span><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">he published a very detailed description of the weather of the Luquillo Mountains (now a more than 50 years old data set), </span><span style="font-size: medium; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">and
also started a pine spacing study.</span></div>

</font><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Herty Barres, who served at ITF for about 2 years in the period of 1958-59 assisted Dr. Briscoe with the collection of mahogany seed provenances throughout Central America.</span></div>

<div><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Dr. Briscoe's writings are all in the IITF library's posterity file. </span></div>

<div><span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">Dr. Briscoe left us for a period of planting in Brazil and then taught at CATIE. Dr. Wadsworth testifies that Dr. Briscoe led about 30 students while working in Puerto Rico, all with good research
projects. </span></div>
