Hi Jess,

That sounds like a good way to make folks aware of ongoing climate-related research at LUQ. Sunny—the postdoc working on ED—could also submit an abstract to this session. Her work fits well within the ESM theme.

Maria

Hi Folks,

I am making you aware of this opportunity to represent LUQ science at the next AGU meeting. I think we could submit a joint presentation based on our well-received symposium on the 2015 drought at the annual meeting. But, first I'd like to hear from individual researchers on their plans for the meeting. Let us know what you think you might submit and then we can plan from there.

Dear tropical friends and colleagues,

We are pleased to let you know that NGEE-Tropics <http://eesa.lbl.gov/ngee-tropics> will be convening an AGU session on "Tropical Forests Under a Changing Climate" at the Fall Meeting, taking place in San Francisco, Dec 12-16.

We welcome your abstract submissions (click here: https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm16/preliminaryview.cgi/Session13688), which are due by Wednesday August 5.

Please feel free to forward to interested colleagues.

We look forward to a very productive session!

Best regards,

B087: Tropical forests under a changing climate

Session ID#: 13688

Session Description:

Tropical forests comprise the most biologically diverse terrestrial ecosystems, cycle more carbon and water than any other biome, and play critical roles in determining Earth’s energy balance. Thus a better understanding of tropical forest processes is required to develop improved Earth System Models (ESMs). Improving representation of these processes in ESMs requires a tight coupling of model development and process-based field and lab investigations. This session will focus on research in tropical forests from an Earth system perspective including both modeling and measurement results. Processes to be highlighted include the response of tropical forests to moisture deficits and drought, elevated temperatures, and changing disturbance/demographic rates, including the role of biodiversity and belowground biogeochemistry in modulating these processes. Of particular interest are contributions that explore El Niño impacts on tropical forest ecohydrology and carbon cycle responses.
