Subject: new publication_Caribbean Foresters 16th Meeting Proceedings and Caribbean Naturalist journal Special Issue #1
Importance: High

Dear Colleagues,
We are happy to announce the publication of the Caribbean Foresters 16th Meeting Proceedings and Caribbean Naturalist journal Special Issue #1 titled-

The Caribbean Foresters: A Collaborative Network for Forest Dynamics and Regional Forestry Initiatives, from which we have attached 3 PDFs; the table of contents, the introduction and conclusion manuscripts.

Among the contributions to the proceedings are manuscripts of permanent forest plots in Dominica (DeWalt et al. 2016) and Guadeloupe (Van Laere et al. 2016), of a Dry Tropical Forest Floristics Network with collaborators from Colombia to Scotland (Banda et al. 2016), and proposals from Caribbean Foresters working groups on regional capacity building for carrying out forest inventories, while identifying current challenges by each country represented at the meeting (Marcano et al. 2016). Institute publications also include those on boundary organizations, landscapes and conservation science from Jacobs et al. and Gould et al. (2016).

The special issue also includes invited contributions on research in the Caribbean, including long-term (over 50 years) response palm forest to hurricanes (Lugo and Frangi 2016), climate and biodiversity effects on standing biomass (Muscarella et al. 2016), soil & vegetation associations on Mona island (Meléndez-Ackerman et al. 2016), and a baseline assessment of EYNF socioeconomic characteristics in light of forest management (McGinley 2016).

The 16th Caribbean Foresters Meeting brought together a wide range of specialists that work in the Caribbean region in forest and land management at the national level. The Meeting, held August 4-9, 2013 in the Dominican Republic, had over 90 participants from 27 countries representing the broader Caribbean region, in addition to participation from USDA-Forest Service International Institute of Tropical Forestry, USAID, USDA Forest Service International Programs, and FAO. Over the course of the meeting, participants identified over 70 sites in the region with permanent forest plots. The focus of this meeting was to understand the potential effects of climate change on Caribbean forests based on empirical, permanent forest plot data.
