Thanks Jess. Are these ideas for the logo or something else?

Hi Jess,

I started doing some research and rough sketches and had a few questions. Two rough sketches are attached, please let me know if you have any comments or corrections on them.

In the first sketch of the mountain forests, I used a 3D sectional view like the typical "watershed" diagrams. Is that what you want or would you prefer a more 2D illustration without the cut section?

I found the following descriptions of the different forest types. Please let me know if these are correct, and if there are any characteristics you could add that would be helpful when illustrating:
Elfin forest: Dwarf forest, shorter trees, blend into stunted vegetation.
Tabonuco forest: Tall trees, straight trunks, 1st branches high above ground. Low light at ground, rich flora.
Moist forest: Green, lots of vegetation?
Dry forest: Deciduous trees, shed leaves during drought?

Once I have your feedback, I'll get started on some more refined sketches.

Hope you had a great thanksgiving!

Best,
Katie

Jess,
Thank you for the photos, they are very helpful! I can almost never have too many reference images.

I can start doing some sketches, and if I come up with any questions I will let you know.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Best,
Katie

Katie,

I attach some photos of the Luquillo Mountains that might be helpful asyou start to develop the drawings. I also did a Google Earth snapshot that is focused on the watershed we work on, but it doesn't capture the 3D aspect of things I would like. If you google "watershed" you get a bunch of nice diagrams that capture the basic elements, which you could then "overlay" the specifics of our ecosystem.

Does this help at all? I am really out of my element here.

I have been meaning to take a photo of a view I get of the mountains as I drive to work that captures much of what we want to depict. Will try to remember to stop and take the photo on my way to the airport tomorrow. Am skipping out for Thanksgiving.
