Hi Jess,

It is sometimes astounding how many complications can arise. I recommended
your award for funding as soon as the overdue final report was approved.
Because the request is for more than $1,000,000/year, it must be approved
by our Assistant Director. His associate now requires that we hold a
virtual panel, and include a panel summary, before she will approve the
award. We’ve got the panel scheduled for 6 January, and should be able to
move quickly after this time. I will try to usher the award through DGA,
and will advise our contact ahead of time that your recommendation must be
on a fast track.

There will be some gap between the expiration of your current award and the
beginning of your new one, but I hope that gap will be less than one month.
Everyone is on track to approve the award – we need to fill in some
procedural holes. If UPR allows, you can exercise NSF’s 90-day pre-award
spending clause. I will send you later today a notice of our intent to
recommend the proposal for funding.

For the nth time, I am sorry for the delays,

saran

Hi Saran,

I hate to bother, but our Management Committee met yesterday and the status
of the renewal proposal came up. I said I would ask. I know you may not
be able to tell us anything, but do you know of anything new regarding the
grant?

Thanks,

jess
