[LTER-im] ClimDB/HydroDB archive

Dear ClimDB/HydroDB contributor,

First - this message is intended for those responsible for contributing
data to the climDB/hydroDB database. It was also sent to the list of
contacts in the DB, and names may be out of date. If you know someone who
should receive this message, please forward.

Last year, the LTER/EDI/USFS ClimDB/HydroDB working group surveyed you
about use of the database and possible features of next-generation systems
for meteorology and hydrology data, and presented options to the LTER IMC
at ESIP in Tacoma. Based on feedback, the working group planned for
archiving the database content and transitioning to a harmonized data
format in the EDI repository, which would be suitable for inclusion to
CUAHSI (Plan is attached).

EDI recently welcomed Judi Sclafani as our summer fellow to work on "Part
A", i.e. (1) archiving ClimDB/HydroDB in EDI, (2) converting its content to
the CUAHSI ODM data format and archiving those data (one
package/contributor). Judi has an impressive background in paleoecology and
quantitative data analysis and is a recent PhD in Geosciences from Penn
State.

Before archiving the ClimDB/HydroDB database we would like to give
contributors the opportunity to update values and/or metadata. Some of the
LTER sites are doing this already. The deadline specified in the plan is
July 1, but we will accept additions until *August 1 2020*.


*Data added to ClimDB/HydroDB after August 1 will NOT be archived.*
We may find that additional, missing metadata needs to be added and will
contact you if that is the case.
