I agree with this. I didn’t realize the reviews wouldn’t be in until after ASM.

HI all,  As an equally early adopter and current user of DEIMS I realize that DEIMS, being based on Drupal, is a better known entity than any homegrown IM system not based on such a public platform. Something we considered a plus when we adopted Drupal. I feel that we need to wait and see the actual written reviews and reason for the fair LUQ received from one of the reviewers. If in fact criticism of DEIMS was the reason rather than a recommendation we’ll need to discuss how to address this among ourselves and possibly with NSF. I strongly feel that each site can choose the system for their data management and a proposal reviewer should only judge what is proposed for managing the data during the next six years and how well the site has done during the last six years (i.e., are the data available in the LTER/EDI portal to support the research the site has published). If a reviewer feels that it will be difficult to upgrade from Durpal 7 to 8 they can say so, but leave it up to the site to deal with it. Every site will always deal with difficult upgrades in their IM system, nothing is static in this area.  So, I would prefer not put any more speculative discussions on the agenda for the ASM and work through the concrete issues Eda lists in her agenda.Corinna  From: Eda C. Subject: Re: Proposed agenda for the 2018 ASM Ad Hoc DEIMS meeting ==> My statement on DEIMS  Hi Renée,  Thank you for answering so quickly.  I made a note of your suggestion to talk about including in the agenda about the negative comments about DEIMS in the last round of proposals. LUQ was one of them so I feel confident in telling you that we will not receive the official reports until late October. That means that I will not be able to tell you exactly what the objections were.  LUQ has all its datasets in PASTA as well as in its website. Unofficially, the complain I heard was that it was difficult to upgrade DEIMS (eg. from Drupal 7 to 8) which seems to me that the person doing the review knows quite a lot about drupal and deims.  My PI told me that our IMS  review said positive things and that the score of "fair" did not quite match to all the positive things said in the review, that I am telling you unofficially because we have to wait till we get the report.  MY SATEMENT ABOUT DEIMS  I want to make something clear here. The reason that I am chairing the DEIMS group is because I, along with Kristin, were the first one to adopt DEIMS when late Marshal and Ignigo developed it for Drupal 6.  It is not my intention to convince anyone on how good DEIMS is and that they should adopt it.  I think we are all professionals and each of us are the best to determine what is best for our site. I have no particular interest in having all the IMs adopting DEIMS. There are other options among the IM group that people may want to look into and adopt. I think we need a public list of all the resources used by the IMC so people can evaluate what they want.  Having said that I want you to know that I will continue working with whoever wants to continue with DEIMS because I believe that working in group is beneficial to everybody in the group.  I am copying all the IMs because I want everybody to know where I stand. I feel I am being the target for having made a choice in ~2009 about adopting DEIMS. I have used DEIMS 1, and 2 and it cannot be coincidence that LUQ IMS had been receiving good and very good reviews up until now.  I do not want to be in the position of having to justify myself to my colleagues... that is my boss' privilege.  I leave you with the hope that you will all understand and respect my position.  EDA  Eda Celina Meléndez ColomLUQ Information ManagerDepartment of Environmental Sciences

Would be nice to get this blocked out in my sched agenda sooner than later.   The agenda is looking good so far. I am glad to hear there is money available to try to resolve some of the bugs. I would like propose we add to the agenda a discussion about the negative comments received about DEIMS during the recent round of site renewals and how those might impact us going forward. Specifically what were the complaints and how can these be appropriately addressed so that they don’t come up again in a site review and/or renewal?  Also, I do not know what agenda item #5 is referring to as I did not receive that email.  Renée

Hi,

Below please find the agenda for our ASM Ad Hoc meeting on Tuesday afternoon, August 2, 2018 from 3:30 to 5:30. This agenda is only a draft.

Please send your feedback before September 7, so we can prepare for the meeting and send you the final agenda.

Also, let us know if you are going to attend our DEIMS meeting because you will notice that K. Vanderbilt's workshop on "IM Vocabulary Working Group and Guests: Collaboration Discussion" will be held at the same time.

The link to the 2018 ASM meeting schedule is : https://2018lterallscientistsmeeting.sched.com/

Proposed agenda for DEIMS meeting:
WHAT WE MUST COVER:

1. Discuss about the funding opportunity from EDI: EDI has participant support funds that would allow the programmers of the DEIMS group to meet together to resolve some of the bugs in DEIMS 2 (Drupal 7).   This would not be a meeting for the whole DEIMS group, but only for those who code and want to fix bugs. We will discuss how to draft a proposal and who will be involved.

2. How to integrate the new version of EML (2.2) with improved standard units into the DEIMS 2 system.

3. How to add the new EML congruence checkers (checksum, DOIs) into DEIMS 2.

4. How to integrate the current LTER Unit registry dictionary and the LTER control vocabulary into the DEIMS 2 system.

5. Is any site interested in integrating the code-generation services for R, matlab etc. into DEIMS (See John Porter's email on June 29, 2018)?

6. OTHER ISSUES YOU WOULD LIKE TO INCLUDE IN THE AGENDA.
