[LTER-im] Travel costs estimates for the request due today

Wade and all,

We each must start with a full budget to know how much the whole shebang is going to cost.  I missed it on the web page that ESIP provided lunch.  That’s good, subtract $57.  Plane tickets are highly variable, they could be $1000 from Portland or I might be able to snag one for $600.  It’s also important to note that Bloomington, IN is an hour, plus, shuttle ride from Indiana International Airport.  I found this company that shuttles every 2 hours throughout the day (http://goexpresstravel.com/airport_shuttle_schedule) for $20 each way.  There are other options, but seemed more expensive.  If you arrive after 10 pm or need to leave before 8 am, then you will need to find another option.

If others discover other useful information, please share.

Gastil and all,

ESIP registration covers breakfast, lunch, snacks and one dinner so the per diems are high. Plus EDI is looking for cost share, so not sure they'd entertain full fare at that level. Fair warning.

EDI is not the only source of travel funds. There is your own site, and the possibility of NCO matching funds.

EXAMPLE for travel from H.J. Andrews to Bloomington, Indiana
Transportation:
                Plane $800
                Baggage fees $50
                Shuttle to/from PDX $87
                Shuttle to/from IND = $40
Lodging: $104 * 5 = $520 or with roommate = $260
Per Diem: current rate for Indiana = $57/day = $342
Registration fee: $415
Total:  $1994-2253

For those who missed yesterday's vtc, we gave ourselves the due date of April 5th to exchange abstract drafts for our sessions. That is the same day EDI will send out decisions on funding from the forms submitted by today.
