Hi everybody,

I just wanted to announce that we've set up a new Slack team for the whole
LTER network. Sign up at:

http://slack.lternet.edu

If you haven't yet used Slack, give it a try. Its easy to use, and fun. Its
a great way to discuss issues and get answers quickly, and it really helps
de-clutter the email inbox. We've created channels for LTER generally
(#lter), discussions of information management (#im), the Environmental
Data Initiative (#edi), and the Network Communications Office (#nco). We
were thinking that site-specific channels would be a good idea too (e.g.,
#gce, #ntl), but those can be created as demand warrants. All users can
create channels, so if a specific topical area needs its own channel, go
ahead!

Once the IM community is onboard (and helps us find any issues), we can
announce the service more broadly to the LTER community of researchers.

I want to thank Sven and the KBS LTER site for generously allowing us to
repurpose the "LTER" slack team for use by the whole LTER community.
Thanks, Sven!

Happy chatting,
Matt

P.S. For those of you with interest, we also run a DataONE slack team, and
you are all more than welcome there as well, especially if you have tech
questions about DataONE. Sign up at http://slack.dataone.org.
