*Job Opportunity: Research Technician in Ecosystem Ecology and
Biogeochemistry at Cornell University*

The Goodale lab at Cornell University seeks applicants for a research
technician position. Lab research in ecosystem ecology and
biogeochemistry examines how carbon, water, and nutrients - especially
nitrogen - cycle through forest ecosystems, and how human activities
affect forest carbon storage and retention of nitrogen. A field and lab
technician is sought to support research on forest nitrogen cycling
processes near Ithaca, NY and Hubbard Brook, NH. Responsibilities
include but are not limited to collection and preparation of soil,
plant, and water samples for stable isotope analyses; lab analyses of
soil properties and microbial processes; operation and maintenance of
major lab instruments; and coordination of undergraduate student
assistance with these and related tasks.

*Qualifications*: Must possess excellent organizational skills and
attention to detail, and must be responsible, personable, proactive, and
able to multi-task and work with moderate supervision. Must be able to
communicate effectively within a research team environment. Should have
a good knowledge of major laboratory instruments (elemental analysis;
ion chromatography; dissolved carbon analysis) and be willing to learn
new laboratory skills, and must comply with safety protocols. Must have
a working knowledge of standard computer spreadsheet and related
programs. Should be able to lift 30-50 pounds, and conduct field work in
rough terrain in a range of weather conditions. Must hold a valid
driver’s license. Minimum qualifications consist of an Associate’s
degree in biological science, environmental science, or a related field
with 1-2 years’ experience; a B.S. with 2-4 years of related experience
is strongly preferred.

*Position:* The position is classified as Technician III (Cornell Band
C), full-time, with benefits. The appointment is for one year, starting
as soon as possible, with extension possible depending on funds and
satisfactory performance. See the Cornell Human Resources website for

and educational background and interests; include your available start
