My name is Jorge Ramos and I am a PhD candidate at the ASU CAP LTER. I am also part of the working group funded from the last ASM: "Beyond the numbers: Supporting and increasing diverse LTER community." by Nidzgorski, D et al.

We are organizing a follow up session this coming ASM and part of it will be to share our results from the last ASM. From those results we have some suggestions to improve recruitment and retention of diverse students in LTERs - one of those suggestions is to build stronger student communities within individual LTERS so that incoming students from diverse backgrounds can join this strong student community.

We think of it as tiered mentoring, and we would like to invite you and your LTER Grad Reps to attend the session and share any success mentoring stories, challenges, and ideas on how Grad Reps can be part of this solution. All PIs will be invited as well, but we need student leaders to be part of it as well.

I am connecting you to Clarisse Hart, Outreach & Development Manager for Education & Research Programs at Harvard Forest LTER. She is leading the workshop and I promised her I would connect her with you.

Hope your weeks are going well!

Jorge

Dear LTER student community,

The site graduate reps and I have been working together to design a format for the graduate student day at the ASM meeting that best facilitates inter-site communications and collaborations among students. We would like to get an idea of what the general research interests are for the graduate students that will be attending the meeting. With this information, we can schedule working groups and presentation sessions around research interests that are most common.

Cedar Creek Grad rep Siddharth Iyengar, developed a very very brief survey that should help us get a better idea of what specific topics to focus the graduate student day on.

Please at your earliest convenience, fill out the survey found at the link below.

Thank you very much for your time, and I look forward to meeting everyone in August!
