Dear LTER Education/Outreach and Diversity Committees,
Last week, I attended an NSF webinar that reviewed the various NSF programs
intended to broaden participation in STEM (all the way from K-12 and
informal science learning audiences through postdoc and early career
opportunities).
Both *the video and the powerpoint*
<https://www.nsf.gov/news/news_summ.jsp?cntn_id=301359&org=EHR> are
available on the Education and Human Resources Division web page. If you
are considering seeking new funding for diversity and inclusion efforts of
any kind, it's worth spending an hour now to avoid wasting weeks applying
to the wrong program or missing a key deadline.
In addition, the email below contains the link to NSF's online interest
form for reviewers. Reviewing proposals is a very good way to learn how to
write better proposals. It is also not necessary to have previously
received NSF funding. It's great professional development.
Take care,
Marty

Greetings,
Thank you for your interest in the *NSF Opportunities: Broadening
Participation in STEM through Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion* *Webinar*
on September 30, 2020.
Over 2,000 people attended the webinar! It was clear to us that there was
much interest in efforts to broaden participation in STEM. Based on the
feedback received so far, the webinar proved to be informative and
valuable.
*Webinar Presentation*
The webinar recording and presentation (pdf) are accessible from NSF
Directorate for Education and Human Resources

*Serving as a Proposal Reviewer*
As we mentioned, *we highly encourage you to consider serving as an NSF
proposal reviewer*.
It is critical that we have a strong, diverse, and sizable cadre of
qualified STEM and education researchers, practitioners, administrators,
and professionals willing and available to share their time and expertise
to the merit review proposal process. The constructive feedback and
insights provided by proposal reviewers are very important to us, as NSF
program officers and in our decision-making processes. It is also a great
way to learn more about the merit review process. Prior experience as a
proposal reviewer or NSF grantee are not required to serve as a proposal
reviewer.
Guidance on proposal writing and the review process are provided. If you
are asked to serve on proposal review panel (i.e., virtual, in-person),
compensation will be provided.
*We ask that you complete the **online interest form*
<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BPWebinarReviewerInterestForm>* if you are
interested in serving as a reviewer by Wednesday, October 14, 2020.*
Your information will be forwarded to the appropriate division(s). Should
your areas of expertise be needed, someone from the applicable division and
or program will contact you for a copy of your CV and additional
information.
If you have additional inquiries, *DO NOT REPLY to this message. Please
contact the division of interest directly.*
Thank you for your interest in the Directorate for Education and Human
Resources at the National Science Foundation.
