[LTER-education] Sad news about a member of our Env. Ed. Community

Schoolyard Ecology Staff and Teachers; LTER Education Reps; and other Environmental Education colleagues:


With much sadness, I send along the difficult news that  Environmental Educator/Plum Island LTER Education Rep/ SAGEE member; Wade Institute Mentor/ Mass Audubon Educator/ GOMI Educator....Liz Duff died last Friday. The obituary in the Gloucester Daily Times is worth reading. Thanks to Schoolyard Teacher, Dan Thomases for passing this  obituary link on to me, and former Schoolyard Teacher Nancy Wile, for sharing the news yesterday.

Liz was an active and passionate collaborator in LTER ecology education, and Wade Institute for Science Education  and early mentor for me in her work at Mass Audubon when I was a Park Ranger many moons ago.  I really admired her way of asking important questions and getting to ways of better teaching and sharing information as a means of relaying deep understanding of concepts she was passionate about communicating.  I have lots of memories of working with her in Gloucester, Wenham, Beverly, Harvard Forest, Clark Univ.,and even the California coast.  I will truly miss her.
