Dear LTER education and outreach managers,

As we all adapt in this stressful time, I know you are being bombarded with
resources for working online, but wanted to offer one or two small
additions that may be especially useful.

Julie Lowndes leads OpenScapes, which is a rapidly growing community in
support of open science, launched with a Mozilla fellowship and based at
NCEAS. She's posted/published two especially good resources:

How to run a remote workshop:
https://www.openscapes.org/blog/2020/03/11/how-to-run-a-remote-workshop/
and
Supercharge your research: a ten-week plan to open data science (great plan
for grad students who can't get into the lab)

We've considered using Slack as a group in the past, but decided it wasn't
a great fit with the typical Ed/Outreach workstyle. It's benefits may be
more evident as folks switch to working remotely for this stretch of time,
so I've added an #Education channel to our Slack organization and invite
you to join us here: https://slack.lternet.edu

Slack is an instant messaging app with great group and alert functions.
Many of you may be familiar with it from other groups you belong to. It's
good for when you need a quick answer or a social boost. Not as good when
you need a long term record of a conversation.

For more on using Slack, check out their video tour, here:

Stay safe, healthy, and sane,
Marty
