Good morning, REU colleagues,
Hot opportunity! Please consider this exceptional opportunity for support
in designing an REU research program online for PIs/site managers. Janet
Branchaw (in BIO) who is an excellent educator/REU PI is leading this with
others in May. Here is the agenda. You'll be walked through the planning
process.

Note that there are only 20 spots. I would attend, but I don't want to use
up a spot. I say go for it if you can!

Subject: Entering Research Facilitator Training Workshop for REU Programs
Cc: JANET L BRANCHAW <branchaw at wisc.edu>, Amanda Butz <abutz2 at wisc.edu>
Good morning,
I am excited to share that my colleagues Janet Branchaw, Amanda Butz, and I
will be offering a virtual *Entering Research* Facilitator Training
Workshop specifically adapted for REU programs going online. The training
will be offered either the week of May 11th or May 18th depending on
participant availability. The Wisconsin Institute for Science Education and
Community Engagement (WISCIENCE) at UW-Madison is sponsoring this workshop
to support REU programs needing to move into a virtual environment, so *there
will be no registration fee*. Space is limited to 20 participants; to
secure your spot, please *register by* *Friday, April 24, 2020*. *To
Register, visit **https://tinyurl.com/ERMay20
<https://tinyurl.com/ERMay20>. *More details on the structure of the
training are attached.
More on the curriculum:
The Entering Research curriculum
<https://wiscience.wisc.edu/program/entering-research> is a collection of
nearly 100 evidence-based activities for undergraduate and graduate
research trainees that can be mixed and matched to create new customized
curricula or be integrated into existing research training program
curricula. Each activity is aligned to the *Entering Research* conceptual
framework and contains trainee materials and detailed facilitator
instructions to guide implementation. The curriculum is designed to create
inclusive learning communities that structure the research experience,
clarify behavioral and performance expectations, and develop the social and
cultural capital in trainees needed to successfully navigate the research
environment.
Best wishes,
Amber
