I thought either some of you are someone at your LTER site might be interested in this opportunity. Our UFERN project is working closely with the FIELD Project to ensure synergies are happening in our similar goals of broadening participation in the field sciences.

October 3-7, 2018

Colorado State University Mountain Campus



The FIELD Project (Fieldwork Inspiring Expanded Leadership and Diversity) is an NSF funded project seeking to examine issue of diversity, equity, and inclusion in geoscience field activity. PIs from nine different institutes will conduct a three-day short course examining issues such as:



?      The transformative nature of field activity through the lens of ethnographic studies conducted by education specialists

?      The unique and beneficial aspects of field work and education that both compliment, and hinder, inclusivity

?      How efforts to advance diversity (e.g. bystander intervention) can be complicated by field conditions

?      How a multidisciplinary approach to can inspire a love of field activity in a wider range of participants



Participants in the FIELD Institute will be encouraged to work together to develop solutions to their own issues of inclusion in field settings through discussion, breakout sessions, and group feedback.
