Hi Folks,
Many of you may be interested in this upcoming NABI seminar on evaluation
instruments for science outreach. The chat is taking place *tomorrow* on
Trellis, where lots of other relevant discussion happens.

Subject: Trellis discussion tomorrow - AAAS evaluation instruments for
scientists
To: NABI-L at po.missouri.edu
Hello NABI! Over the past year many of you have helped with an effort to
develop scales to measure the short-term impact of public engagement on
scientists. Two of the scales are now ready and they will be the topic of
conversation during a Trellis discussion tomorrow afternoon. See below for
details.
I am leading a live online chat June 29 from 12-1pm ET in the Public
Engagement with Science Group on Trellis (it takes place in a discussion
thread – no talking, video, or slides). We’ll be discussing the scales
I’ve been developing on behalf of AAAS, to measure the impacts of
participating in public engagement activities *on scientists*. The
long-term goal for this project is to create evaluation tools that can be
used across the field of public engagement with science. We’d welcome your
questions or input!
To join:
*If you’re a member of the Public Engagement with Science Group on Trellis,
here’s the direct link to the discussion thread:*

*Live Chat: Measuring Impacts of Public Engagement on Scientists*
Join us here in this thread for a live chat on *Thursday, June 29th*
*from 12pm-1pm
ET* with Karen Peterman. In recent years, AAAS has worked with stakeholders
to develop a typology, theory of change, and logic model for public
engagement with science. As a next step in this process, AAAS is preparing
to build a large-scale evaluation system for potentially broad use
within the field of public engagement with science. Two evaluation tools
have been developed so far to measure the short-term outcomes for
scientists of participating in public engagement. It is the hope that these
instruments will help advance evidence for public engagement with science,
and provide reflective opportunities for scientists engaging public
audiences.
Join the discussion to share feedback on the new scales posted in the group
library (one is on self-efficacy and one on motivation) and to reflect on
the future of evaluation and research related to public engagement
activities.
For those joining during the live chat time period, remember to refresh
your browser to see new comments. Please address your questions and
comments to a specific person or question (@Karen, re: Q2). Thank you for
participating!
