[LTER-commcom] LTER Communications Committee meeting, Thursday, March 11

Peter

Please share the piece with Michael when you are comfortable with that. If Marty takes the lead on a press release that highlights a piece in The Conversation then we can all pick up on that.

Thanks for thinking of this larger effort.

Best, David

Hi Lina,

I am an on an NSF panel this week and won't be able to make our meeting.

Happily, we have reviewed and corrected proofs for all five of our ECOSPHERE papers, and paid the publication charges, so these should be coming out soon.

Michael Nelson and I are working on a piece for "The Conversation" to draw attention to the articles.

Maybe Marty, we should pick up a press release?

Sorry to miss the meeting!

Peter

Hi Communications Committee

Thank you for our time and input at today’s meeting. Action items from today’s meeting:

  * Peter is working with Michael Nelson on the piece for The Conversation. Input from others welcome
  * Marty will send the press release to comm comm members, so we can work with media outlets at our home institutions (wait on release until Ecosphere papers are out)
  * Peter will send press release to authors so they, too, can explore home institution media outlets.
  * Sarah will connect with the education committee to list out related efforts, like datanuggets
  * Marty will set up an Ecosphere papers webpage on the LTER site that will link to the ESA press release (when it comes out), data nuggets, other associated items
  * Sarah will present the AISL proposal to the LTER EB in December
  * The Comm Comm will present to the EB in January, after our Jan 14 comm comm meeting
  * Marty will send out a link and login to the new LNO community platform, so comm comm members can try it and comment

Last, but not least, we bid a FOND farewell to Julie Doll, who announced today that she will be taking a new position with KBS. Julie has been an invaluable, energetic member of the committee for years, driving efforts like the recent Ecosphere papers, the LTER calendar, and serving as committee chair. We’ll miss Julie’s positive energy and clarity. Julie, we wish you success in your new role!

Best wishes to you all, and happy holidays. We’ll see you at our next meeting, January 14, 2021.
