‌ ‌ Familiar Faces Friday Enjoy these short virtual updates from Hubbard Brook. Ian Halm Site Manager, Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest Mark Green Senior Research Associate, Case Western Reserve University I have been holed up at home in Cleveland for a couple weeks now with my wife and son. We're well. Work life has been eerily normal - conference/video calls, writing, data analysis. I've appreciated witnessing and experiencing the communal support within the scientific community; a bright spot in a dark moment. Thinking of Hubbard Brook makes me think of the cooperators meeting. I have a new appreciation for how special it is sitting shoulder to shoulder for two days with 100+ colleagues, sharing our insights into how forests work. This photo is from a 3-mile family hike (Henry's longest yet on his own two legs) in the Noanet Woodlands last weekend. Jackie Matthes Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences, Wellesley College I'm thinking of our wonderful Hubbard Brook community and I hope that you all are well. Our family has adjusted to preschool at home with my son Henry while balancing two at-home work schedules for the grown-ups (my husband, Erich, is a philosophy professor at Wellesley). We're grateful for our health and have been embracing this unexpected time together by spending lots of time outdoors, which makes for the perfect preschool classroom! Jenny Bower PhD Student, University of Vermont Follow Jenny on Twitter @jennyspatial for more updates on #coronagradlife: https://twitter.com/jennyspatial/status/1242922847447724033?s=20 https://twitter.com/jennyspatial/status/1242865895006928900?s=20 Dear Hubbard Brook colleagues and friends, Each week during the COVID-19 crisis, we will be gathering a few short dispatches from community members to share via email. If you'd like to share a message for next week, get in touch at sciencelinks at hubbardbrookfoundation.org. Maintaining our strong sense of community will be more important than ever during this incredibly challenging time as most of us are physically separated from our workplaces, friends, and family. We hope these updates from familiar faces give you a lift as you head into the weekend. Thank you to Ian Halm, Mark Green, Jackie Matthes, and Jenny Bower for contributing to this new effort—enjoy their messages above. Take care, HBRF The Hubbard Brook Research Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting the Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study.
