Our Forests Are Under Fire

With an increasing majority of Forest Service funding dedicated to fire suppression,
drastic cuts for research threaten to destabilize experimental forests.
The real-world impacts are playing out at Hubbard Brook.  Ian Halm is pulled away
from his leadership role as Hubbard Brook's Site Manager to fight fires across the
country for weeks every year. Hubbard Brook researchers are working creatively to
streamline data collection in response to reduced staffing under the current hiring
freeze.
Whether fighting fires or conducting cutting-edge ecosystem science, the people 
of Hubbard Brook are on the front lines, working to understand and protect our forests
under increasing budget pressures.
