Hi all:

Following on the Ecological Theory working group at the 2015 All Scientists Meeting, please find attached an updated syllabus for a Fall 2016 distributed graduate seminar. The seminar series will engage scientists from key theoretical fields of ecology to speak about how long term research informs the evolution of that theory. Each week we will hear from a different speaker and then discuss how long term investigations in that field enhance forecasts of ecological change and what frameworks and datasets are necessary to do so, and outline key ecological questions that are only testable through long term approaches.

If you are a faculty member, please consider offering this course for graduate credit at your institution. If you do,
please add your institution, course numbers and instructors to the list and return to us. Students can then either enroll for credit or sit in on lectures – all career stages are welcome!

Enrolled or not,
please email the course organizers, Evelyn Gaiser (gaisere at fiu.edu) and John Kominoski (jkominos at fiu.edu), so that we can add you to the email list for course-related announcements. All you’ll need is a computer with a high-speed connection to the internet. The course will be facilitated via Adobe Connect (see details in syllabus).

Thanks to all who have contributed to this idea, elected to participate and to the speakers who have confirmed their interest and availability!

Best wishes,

Evelyn Gaiser and John Kominoski
