Dear MSI folks,

My name is Greg Wahlert and I'm the collections manager and research botanist at the Cheadle Center for Biodiversity and Ecological Restoration (CCBER) here at UCSB.

I am organizing a seaweed workshop at CCBER which will cover various aspects of marine macroalgae from the SB coast and Channel Islands (diversity, taxonomy, biogeography, climate change, identification). The workshop will be led by Dr. Kathy Ann Miller from UC Berkeley.

I have attached a flyer for the workshop, and I would be grateful if you could pass it on to any interested students and faculty, but the workshop is open to anyone interested in seaweeds!

Dr. Miller will also give a one-hour research presentation at the MSI auditorium on Friday, Nov. 17th at noon (I'll advertise for that later). She will speak broadly about the diversity of marine macroalgae along the CA coast.

We have a terrific seaweed herbarium here at CCBER, and it's the third largest collection in southern California. The impetus for the workshop is to reach out to the marine biologists on campus to encourage vouchering of marine algae specimens at CCBER and to promote seaweed taxonomy and identification among UCSB MB students and the Santa Barbara community.

Feel free to contact me if you're ever interested in seeing our algae herbarium or learning more about our many natural history collections at CCBER.

Sincerely,

Greg Wahlert
