[LTER-opportunities] Field technician position: tropical forest ecosystem ecology and climate change in Puerto Rico

The Silver Lab anticipates hiring a field technician position at the
University of California, Berkeley (https://nature.berkeley.edu/silverlab/)
to assist with a project investigating the controls on greenhouse gas
emissions from tropical soils and the impact of climate change on ecosystem
ecology and biogeochemistry in Puerto Rico.
*Primary job duties* will include help with running and maintaining field
sensors and equipment, help with establishment and maintenance of
experimental field plots, field soil sampling, sampling processing in the
lab, and data entry and management. The technician will work closely with
postdocs and graduate students in the group. The field site is at El Verde
Research Station, a Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) location and
Critical Zone Observatory (CZO), in Puerto Rico.
*Minimum requirements:* A bachelor's degree in ecology, biology, geology,
environmental science, or a similar field of study. The ability to work
full days under hot/humid field conditions, the ability to walk on slippery
steep slopes carrying up to 40 lbs., comfort learning and performing basic
machine maintenance (e.g., changing the oil in a generator), and a valid
driver’s license.
*Desired qualifications:* Field and laboratory experience in ecosystem
ecology or related fields. Training in trace gas flux methods, experience
with dataloggers or other automated scientific equipment, comfort with
computer and instrument repair (hardware and software), conversational
Spanish.
Positions will begin as early as *May 25, 2016,* and will last 9-12 months.
