Dear colleagues and friends,

I would like to inform you that Dr. Jenny Baeseman is going to be the new
SCAR Executive Director. She was selected in a process in which 27
applications were received. Jenny has been Executive Director of the WCRP
Climate and Cryosphere (CliC) project since 2012 and previous to that was
the Founding Director of the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists
(APECS). She will start to work for SCAR part time from 1st July 2015 and
full time from 1st September 2015. I look forward Jenny continuing the
excellent trajectory marked by our previous executive directors, Colin
Summerhayes and Mike Sparrow.

I use this opportunity to publically thank Mike Sparrow for his efficient
work and important contribution to SCAR during the last years as
Executive Director, and wish him all the best in his new job.

I would also like to thank Rosemary Nash and Eoghan Griffin for their
excellent work and commitment, especially in these particularly busy
times.

SCAR is in a very busy period, with the XXXVIII ATCM and XVIII CEP
meetings (1-10 June 2015, Sofia, Bulgaria), the XII ISAES that will start
shortly (13-17 July 2015, Goa, India), the EXCOM meeting, including the
discussions about the revision of the SCAR structure and the next
strategic plan in less than three months (26-29 August 2015, Tromso,
Norway). The plans for the 2016 XXXIV SCAR Meeting and the Open Science
Conference (19-31 August 2016, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) are advancing
well, and many other initiatives and workshops are going to take place in
the coming times.

The projection of SCAR in different fora, like at the last ATCM, and our
relationships with our partner organizations are excellent. Several
countries have recently approached SCAR to become new members of our
organization.

All this is thanks to the contribution and effort of the SCAR community,
and I would like to thank all of you for this.
