By the way, I wanted to share that Jess, Fred Scatena, and I worked with an artist to create an interactive illustration of the destruction and regrowth process after a hurricane like Hugo. http://elyunque.net/english/resources.html <http://elyunque.net/english/resources.html>
You can overlay the water, nitrogen, and carbon cycle to see how they vary during different phases of recovery. 

This may be a helpful resource for the media to understand what we might expect to see over the course of the next few years.
