Happy Monday to all of you,

Yesterday the landslide at Km 11.8 (Palo Colorado Area) expanded and cut into the asphalt of the road.  In case you haven’t seen it, I’ve attached a picture.  The road is now closed at Palo Colorado to the general public, including outfitter-guides.  Comm site permit holders and their contractors will be allowed past this spot if they have official business up at the comm sites at East Peak or El Yunque.  These authorized personnel will need to present proper company or agency identification at the closure site to gain access.  Be advised that vehicular and pedestrian access beyond this point should be discouraged  and should be limited to emergencies only.   As of right now, we expect the road will remain closed for 2-4 weeks.  The contractor needs to continue the current work to rebuild the embankment below the road before the road can be reconstructed.

Until further notice, I am closing the road to all of us as well.  If you have a project that requires you to drive past Km 11.8, you must get permission from Manuel or myself.  Please let your staff officer know if this is going to delay the completion of a project so they can plan accordingly.
