I have one more PhD student, Braulio Quintero, working in Puerto Rico, on broad energy-economic/historical/sustainability issues, but not really associated with Luquillo LTER. We tried to get him a little money through some wind-down funding I was supposed to get, and Nick worked on that, but it fell through.
But I am still connected some with LTER in my retirement in Montana. Would anyone have a strong opinion, one way or another, to adding Bali to this list? He has attended many URBAN LTER- "Down the mountain" events, and when he (given a successful defense) gets his PhD would look good on my and our roster of products, especially since he is good and he is a Puerto Rican (meaning I think it looks good to generate more high level products from the Island). But maybe (probably??) it is too much of a stretch.
If you wish ask Bali for a brief summary of his dissertation project.

p.s. Oscar Abelleira, one of my undergraduates who worked mightily in Luquillo (Helping Nancy Harris, MS on trees in PR, much input from Lugo and others) not only received a PhD from University of Idaho but also nailed a tenure track job at UPR - Mayaguez. Whoopee!
