*RE:* Update on LTER Supplement Proposals

Dear LTER PIs,

As we are sure you understand, the budget situation for FY 2017 has been
more uncertain than usual.

We are currently functioning under a Continuing Resolution until at least
April 28th, and will not know what our 2017 budget will be until then.
Given this uncertainty, and the possibility of tight budgets this year and
next, the LTER Working Group has decided not to solicit proposals for
supplements in FY 2017.

We are aware of the importance of these supplements and that this decision
is likely to have significant impacts on summer research activities, and
will disappoint many of you. Please understand that we have not made this
decision lightly, or without consideration of these impacts.

Please feel free to contact your managing PO with any questions or concerns
you may have about this decision.

All the best,

John
