Dear all,

Please consider submitting an abstract to the following session at the AGU
fall meeting (San Francisco, CA. 9-13 December 2019,
https://www2.agu.org/fall-meeting). Abstracts are due July 31. Please
contact either of the conveners with any questions.

*Session Title:*

*H130. The hidden water cycle in land-atmosphere interactions – fog, dew
and water vapor sources and processes in ecosystems*

Conveners:

Lixin Wang, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis

Martha Scholl, US Geological Survey, Earth System Processes Division

*Invited speakers: *

Dr. Todd Dawson (UC Berkeley)

Dr. Sybil Gotsch (Franklin and Marshall College)

*Session Description:*

Non-rainfall waters (e.g., fog, dew and water vapor) are the least studied
hydrological components in many ecosystems. The associated
condensation-evaporation-redeposition processes, in local to regional-
scale, are poorly quantified in water balances yet play an important role
in ecosystem dynamics and are particularly important for water-limited
systems. To fill this knowledge gap, in this session, we welcome
submissions of field or model investigations of the sources and dynamics of
cloud water, fog and dew in various systems as well as the effects of fog
and dew on various ecosystem functions (e.g., vegetation-water relations,
biogeochemical cycling, groundwater recharge). We also welcome studies
examining the mechanisms of fog and dew alleviating vegetation water stress.
