Hi all,

See the below message from Shelley Stall.   The multi-agency Subcommittee
on Open Science of the National Science and Technology Council’s Committee
on Science is seeking comment from individuals and institutions on
desirable characteristics for data repositories (*March 6 deadline*).

The document being developed is meant to serve as a guide for federal
agency policies relating to data repositories.  The proposed standards are
in line with FAIR principles.  LTER IM has been largely been working within
these priorities for many years.  As currently written. the document would
be in line with what NSF is already asking of the LTER and what EDI is
providing.

IMexec is not crafting comments on behalf of the IMC due to time
constraints.  This may be something you want to discuss with your site.

There is an important opportunity to provide Public Comment on the Draft
Desirable Characteristics of Repositories for Managing and Sharing Data
Resulting from Federally Funded Research:

This is most important for folks in the US, but for those outside the US,
please help the developers of this list of Desirable Characteristics
understand that the repository community is international and guidance from
one country needs to be informed with all possible collaboration by all
countries.



The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy is issuing this RFC
on behalf of the multi-agency Subcommittee on Open Science of the National
Science and Technology Council’s Committee on Science. The proposed set of
desirable characteristics is part of the Subcommittee’s efforts to improve
the consistency of information that Federal agencies provide to the
scientific community about the long-term preservation of data resulting
from Federally funded research. The characteristics could apply to
repositories operated by government or non-governmental entities.



Feedback will help the Subcommittee refine and develop a common set of
characteristics that Federal research funding agencies can use to support
ongoing efforts to improve the management and sharing of data from
Federally funded research.  To ensure your comments will be considered,
please submit your response before 11:59 ET on Friday, March 6, 2020.
