Good morning,
IM Exec met yesterday to finalize plans for our upcoming meeting in Tacoma. We’ve noted some of you have not filled out the “Attending” and/or “Monday Dinner at the Forum” columns in the spreadsheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DvwLsNZ-elCPbJ6zlGklPrqEixNoSvAFXjMtllK6DXU/edit#gid=1161807051).
1. Please fill out these two columns, if you haven’t already, so we can have an accurate count for our meeting and dinner reservations.
2. If you are bringing other people from your site to the meeting and/or dinner, could you please add them to the spreadsheet?
Thank you, and we look forward to seeing all of you soon!
Renée

Hi all,
A friendly reminder to book your travel to the 2019 LTER Information Management Committee annual meeting (see original message from Marty below), which will be held on July 15, 2019 just prior to the Earth Science Information Partners<https://www.esipfed.org/meetings/upcoming-meetings/sm19> summer meeting, which is July 16 - 19th, 2019, in Tacoma, WA. The deadline for early registration closes in approximately two weeks, and the hotel room block is filling up, so please don’t delay. The finalized ESIP agenda has been posted<https://2019esipsummermeeting.sched.com/>. Note there will be many sessions led by IMC members throughout the week, along with many other interesting sessions. Breakfast, lunch, and coffee breaks Tue-Fri are included in the registration fee. The ESIP Summer Meeting is a wonderful opportunity for us LTER IMs to interact with data professionals external to the LTER Network (e.g., NASA, NOAA, USGS, to name a few). We are still working on finalizing our IMC Meeting agenda, but expect a similar format to previous years, with some improvements. Also, please see several social options that are being organized by IMC members below.
To help us with logistics, we have set up a spreadsheet<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DvwLsNZ-elCPbJ6zlGklPrqEixNoSvAFXjMtllK6DXU/edit#gid=1161807051> that we need everyone to fill out. Please indicate the following:
- Attendance. Whether or not you are attending.
- Roommate. If you need a roommate (NCO/EDI will only reimburse for shared rooms), reach out to someone else who needs a roommate.
- Monday IMC Dinner. Whether you or not you are attending the Monday IMC dinner at the Forum<http://www.eatattheforum.com/>. The Forum will accommodate a plethora of dietary restrictions, providing gluten free, vegetarian, and pescatarian options.
- Arrivals and departures. If you’d like to coordinate shared transportation.
We have not been provided much information regarding transportation to/from SeaTac, but it appears there are many transportation options<https://www.traveltacoma.com/plan/ground-transportation/#> to choose from including shuttle, bus, train, light rail, lyft/uber, etc.., as well as transport options<https://tacomaconventioncenter.org/attend#toggleTitle2-1> within Tacoma.
July is one of the best times to be in the Pacific Northwest. There are lots of beautiful sites to see this time of year, including Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and the Olympic Peninsula.
IMC Tacoma Social Events
Monday Dinner
Please join us at 7:00 PM after the IMC meeting for a group dinner at your own expense at The Forum<http://www.eatattheforum.com/>. Let us know on the IMC Attending sheet<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DvwLsNZ-elCPbJ6zlGklPrqEixNoSvAFXjMtllK6DXU/edit#gid=1161807051>.
Escape Room
Enigma Escapes WA<https://enigmaescapeswa.com/> is one of the highest rated escape rooms<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escape_room> in Tacoma, and it is also within walking distance of our hotel. Put your wits to the test in this one-hour challenge for groups of up to eight people to solve puzzles and escape the room! Indicate your interest on the signup sheet<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1DvwLsNZ-elCPbJ6zlGklPrqEixNoSvAFXjMtllK6DXU/edit#gid=2012489369> by June 7. Tim Whiteaker<mailto:whiteaker at utexas.edu> will then follow up with interested persons to select a day and time. We have to book the room in advance so don't wait until the last minute on this one.
Devil's Reef
On Wednesday evening, get your pirate on at Devil's Reef<https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Greater+Tacoma+Convention+Center,+Commerce+Street,+Tacoma,+WA/Devil's+Reef,+706+Court+C,+Tacoma,+WA+98402/@47.2529343,-122.4445629,16z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m14!4m13!1m5!1m1!1s0x549055744d668161:0xe464395e6d5c8dd5!2m2!1d-122.4389871!2d47.248525!1m5!1m1!1s0x549055a731442b79:0x133321e28504cb2f!2m2!1d-122.4419746!2d47.2573242!3e2>, a nearby tiki bar which scores 9 out of 10 on critiki.com<http://critiki.com/>. Track down Tim Whiteaker<mailto:whiteaker at utexas.edu> at ESIP if you're interested.
Mariners Game
If you'll still be in town on Friday evening, watch the Seattle Mariners take on the Los Angeles Angels at 7:10 PM in Seattle. Chris Turner<mailto:chris at axiomdatascience.com> is leading this expedition, so get in touch with him directly if you're interested.
Botanical Garden Walk
Join Gastil<mailto:gastil.gastil-buhl at ucsb.edu> and others on Sunday and Friday for a walk through the botanical gardens at Wright Park, about a mile north of the convention center.
