[LTER-im] Interesting paper on data publication

I came across a paper criticizing the suitability of the "publication"
metaphor for data that I thought you might find interesting from a
number of perspectives:

Parsons, M.A. and Fox, P.A., 2013. Is data publication the right
metaphor? Data Science Journal, 12:WDS32-WDS46.
https://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/dsj/12/0/12_WDS-042/_pdf

They break the world down into 5 major "metaphors" for data sharing -
and in Table 1 list LTER as the example for "Science Support". Where
that gets especially interesting is when they summarize the strengths
and weaknesses of the different types in Table 2. There, the "Science
Support" category is the only one that rates a "good" on "usability"
(but also "poor" on discovery, access and governance).

The article came out around the time that PASTA started to take off, so
hopefully many of those ratings would have improved by now!
