Dear Phillip (and all)

I just wanted to reiterate the our position with regard to the selection
process to make sure there is no confusion about where we stand. We
offered to host NIMO at UNM if no other acceptable alternative presented
itself. We are still willing to do so. However, since there seems to be
a number of viable alternatives, we are not planning on submitting the
requested documentation. We will instead focus on the part of NIMO that
is of most interest to us and which we are best qualified to address,
maintenance and further development of the PASTA software that forms the
backbone of the NIS. We look forward to working with the eventual host
institution to prepare the proposal(s) necessary to establish NIMO. We
will also continue to look for other sources of support that might
assure the long-term success of the LTER data enterprise.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,

Bob

Dear colleagues,

Attached is the site/PI profile template for those institutions that are
willing to host the NIMO administrative function. If you wish to be
considered as a candidate site, please return your completed profile by
18:00 PDT on Wednesday, September 9. I will then distribute these to
everyone in advance of an IMC vote. Please add your site ID to the
front of the file name, e.g. XXX proposed NIMO host.docx.

I propose that the voting process should identify at least a first and
second choice site so that we have a “plan B” in case negotiations with
a preferred site do not pan out. The first choice site will go forward
to the LTER Executive Board for approval. The vote will be based on one
vote per site, which I think is as fair and equitable as we can make it.
Please let me know if you have an alternative suggestion.
