A Postdoctoral Research Associate is sought to join a newly funded National Science Foundation DRK12 project at Michigan State University (MSU). The project, titled: "Teaching Science Outdoors: A Next Generation Approach for Advancing Elementary Science Teaching in Urban Communities", is designed to investigate and develop effective models to support teachers working in high-poverty elementary schools to implement science lessons which are culturally responsive, leverage outdoor resources and are NGSS-aligned. The work of the project will be situated within professional learning communities. Project partners include: MSU (College of Education and Kellogg Biological Station), Technion (Israel), Detroit Public Schools Community District, Lansing Public Schools and Ebersole Nature Center, and Belle Isle Conservancy.

The post-doc will work closely with the PI (Gail Richmond, MSU) and Co-PI (Tali Tal, Technion) to help design and develop assessment items, assist in data collection and analysis, and support implementing the professional development. S/he will help lead the coaching activities in the classroom including visits in classrooms for observation and coaching, help organize meetings and communication associated with coaching activities, be involved in data analysis and support program evaluation work. S/he will also write papers and give presentations at national/international conferences (e.g., NARST, ESERA, AERA).

Qualifications: A PhD in science education or a related area, experience working with elementary teachers, preferably in high-poverty communities and an interest in outdoor education. Experience working on research grants and involvement in publication preparation preferred.

The position is full-time for one year (beginning in fall or winter 2019) with renewal for up to two additional years, dependent upon satisfactory annual review.
