[LTER-education] Question re RET supplements

Hi Cora,
There's a folder in the Team Drive called LTER RET 2016 that has some helpful examples. Julie, I can forward Cora what you shared with me, or maybe you could post that to the Team Drive? There's actually an empty folder called LTER RET that might be a good repository for any others we can collect. It sure is helpful to have some framework for what the NSF likes to see!

Hi everyone,

We've never applied for an RET at the VCR (as far I or our lead PI know). If anyone has an example of a successful RET supplement application that you'd be willing to share, I'd really appreciate the chance to see one for reference.

Thanks for your consideration.

Regards,

Cora

Hi Julie,

We understand that this will take time and we definitely want the process to be effective. You are welcome to submit a supplemental proposal before you have identified a teacher, as long as you make the selection process clear.

Feel free to give me a call if you have any further questions,

John

Subject: Question re RET supplements

Hi Dr. Schade-

Greetings from southwest Michigan! We met at the ASM this fall - I hope you are well! I have been in conversations with multiple LTER sites regarding the recent RET solicitation, and we have a question for you.

The RET supplement requests a biosketch of the teacher selected for the RET experience, as well as a thorough discussion of the selection process, including a plan to recruit from underrepresented groups and underserved school districts. Because a thorough recruitment process takes time to do well, we are wondering if it would be possible to submit an RET description that outlines the selection process robustly enough in regards to these diversity-seeking measures to preclude the need to include a particular recipient's name.

There may well be other vital considerations that make the teacher biosketch necessary, but we thought the question would be worth asking.

Thank you for letting us know!

Cheers,

Julie
