Greetings John et al.,
I am sorry to report that I will not be able to join in the conference
call tomorrow. Also sorry that I have not been a more active member of
the group during the past few weeks. We've been operating short staffed
at the field station and my time has been pulled in too many
directions. I had hoped to be able to sit in on the meeting tomorrow,
but the weather forecast is forcing us to alter our schedule in order to
get some field work done while the tides are favorable. That being
said, I will do my best to help with the WG committee as it begins to
review wg proposals and scheduling.
I've been trying to think of something fun for the last evening
activities. Our students do a series of skits for our annual holiday
party, some of which are really great and very funny. Then I remembered
that we've got 25 sites, and even if each group just had 5 minutes for
skits, we are looking at over 2 hours, which seems like a lot for anyone
to sit through.
Knowing that some sites prepare short videos of their activities, I
wonder if we might ask folks to submit entries that could be pre-judged
and then hold a best site/field work video competition with the audience
as judges for the finalists? Could be a way for folks to learn more
about work being done and field conditions at some of the other LTER sites.
Just a thought. Hope the meeting goes well tomorrow. I'll be thinking
of you as I'm laying underwater punching little holes in seagrass leaves
and trying not to repeatedly stab myself in the finger with a needle.
