The Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) Network Office recently announced
a new opportunity for synthesis groups drawing on LTER data.

Funding is available for 2-4 projects of up to 2 years in duration (1 year
projects are also acceptable). The project selection committee is most
interested in proposals anticipated to return high impact results in the seven
core LTER thematic areas <https://lternet.edu/core-research-areas/>, but
proposals in other areas will also be considered. Proposers are encouraged
to review prior LTER synthesis working groups
<https://lternet.edu/current-working-groups/> and to review the synthesis
resources <https://lternet.edu/synthesis/synthesis-resources/> on the LTER
Network website.

Full details (and registration for August 22 informational webinar
<https://ucsb.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Wuo3FUBbSCyuWVSBNIGdhQ>) are
available on the LTER Network website:

*What do LTER synthesis groups do?*

   - analyze and synthesize LTER (and other) data
   - employ data from multiple sites
   - involve individuals who are familiar with the sites and data (as well
as those who may not be)
   - draw on publicly available data
   <https://portal.edirepository.org/nis/home.jsp>
   - make derived data products publicly available
   - strive to follow best practices for reproducible science

*LTER synthesis working groups may:*

   - include data and researchers who are not part of the LTER Network
   - address LTER’s 7 core areas <https://lternet.edu/core-research-areas/>
   - address novel and important questions that do not fall under the core
   areas

*LTER synthesis working groups do not:*

   - collect new data
   - fund salaries
