<p>The only pool of funds that I know of to support travel to the ILTER meeting in South Africa came through the new LTER National Communications Office (LNCO) in Santa Barbara.  I know that they have already made decisions, but it might be worthwhile to check
 with them to see if anyone has changed their plans and/or if they have some funds left.  I've included Marty Downs from the LNCO on this note and perhaps she can let us know.<br>

<p class="MsoNormal">Hello Peter. I am writing to you about ILTER meeting. I just heard this week that I finally got the approval from my agency to attend the ILTER meeting. I have already paid for registration fee taking my chances because deadline for that
 was August 15^th. If I did not pay then the organizers threatened to give my oral presentation spot to someone else. This is good news because now at least I can officially present my work at this meeting. Two of my research projects have been accepted
 for oral talks. I am not sure how many other people will be going from northeast to this meeting or presenting research from HBEF related projects. I am also going to present the work done in India which was funded by a grant from ILTER to HBEF LTER site and
 money was given to me by Tim Fahey at that time to do work in India. This work was also on N inputs in the foothills of Himalayas.  </p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Now that I have made the background I can come to the point. The problem is by now we do not have much funds left in this year’s budgets. I am willing to foot 50% of the total expenses including one field trip to the . I already made an
 international trip for a conference mostly on my own expenses. ILTER meeting was announced later but this meetings topics are of great interest to me. I was wondering if there is any chance that US ILTER or LTER offices could partially fund my visit to South
 Africa. The air ticket will have to be bought within this budget year. If not LTER, is there a chance that HBEF may be able to support part of my trip since I will be presenting our LTER site there. This meeting is being supported by US ILTER but only young
 scientists could ask for funding. Within FS we have (at least my project these days) so little budgets these days that even local meetings I have been attending on my own.
