Dear colleagues and friends,<br>

<br>

I would like to inform you that Dr. Jenny Baeseman is going to be the new<br>

SCAR Executive Director. She was selected in a process in which 27<br>

applications were received. Jenny has been Executive Director of the WCRP<br>

Climate and Cryosphere (CliC) project since 2012 and previous to that was<br>

the Founding Director of the Association of Polar Early Career Scientists<br>

(APECS). She will start to work for SCAR part time from 1st July 2015 and<br>

full time from 1st September 2015. I look forward Jenny continuing the<br>

excellent trajectory marked by our previous executive directors, Colin<br>

Summerhayes and Mike Sparrow.<br>

<br>

I use this opportunity to publically thank Mike Sparrow for his efficient<br>

work and important contribution to SCAR during the last years as<br>

Executive Director, and wish him all the best in his new job.<br>

<br>

I would also like to thank Rosemary Nash and Eoghan Griffin for their<br>

excellent work and commitment, especially in these particularly busy<br>

times.<br>

<br>

SCAR is in a very busy period, with the XXXVIII ATCM and XVIII CEP<br>

meetings (1-10 June 2015, Sofia, Bulgaria), the XII ISAES that will start<br>

shortly (13-17 July 2015, Goa, India), the EXCOM meeting, including the<br>

discussions about the revision of the SCAR structure and the next<br>

strategic plan in less than three months (26-29 August 2015, Tromso,<br>

Norway). The plans for the 2016 XXXIV SCAR Meeting and the Open Science<br>

Conference (19-31 August 2016, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) are advancing<br>

well, and many other initiatives and workshops are going to take place in<br>

the coming times.<br>

<br>

The projection of SCAR in different fora, like at the last ATCM, and our<br>

relationships with our partner organizations are excellent. Several<br>

countries have recently approached SCAR to become new members of our<br>

organization.<br>

<br>

All this is thanks to the contribution and effort of the SCAR community,<br>

and I would like to thank all of you for this.<br>
