<p>I like the drawings. The scale of the Catena drawing seems too
large if we are trying to represent small watersheds. The 3-D
drawing will be helpful, but we need to pin down what we are
trying to communicate. Labels that mix precipitation (Moist, dry)
with forest community types should be avoided. If we want to
represent a transect, the river may need to be straightened a bit.
<br>
</p>
<p>I wonder whether we couple couple these drawings with a
representation of the DEM for the mountain from three directions?
Then the 3-D drawing could represent the activities we conduct on
the Sonadora transect . <br>

<div dir="ltr">Hi Jess,
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I started doing some research and rough sketches and
had a few questions. Two rough sketches are attached,
please let me know if you have any comments or
corrections on them. </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>In the first sketch of the mountain forests, I used a
3D sectional view like the typical "watershed"
diagrams. Is that what you want or would you prefer a
more 2D illustration without the cut section?</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>I found the following descriptions of the different
forest types. Please let me know if these are correct,
and if there are any characteristics you could add that
would be helpful when illustrating:</div>
<div><b>Elfin forest</b>: Dwarf forest, shorter trees,
blend into stunted vegetation.<br>
</div>
<div><b>Tabonuco forest</b>: Tall trees, straight trunks,
1st branches high above ground. Low light at ground,
rich flora. </div>
<div><b>Moist forest</b>: Green, lots of vegetation? </div>
<div><b>Dry forest</b>: Deciduous trees, shed leaves
during drought?</div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Once I have your feedback, I'll get started on some
more refined sketches. </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Hope you had a great thanksgiving!</div>

<div>I attach some photos of the
Luquillo Mountains that might be
helpful asyou start to develop the
drawings. I also did a Google
Earth snapshot that is focused on
the watershed we work on, but it
doesn't capture the 3D aspect of
things I would like. If you google
"watershed" you get a bunch of nice
diagrams that capture the basic
elements, which you could then
"overlay" the specifics of our
ecosystem.</div>

stop and take the photo on my way to
the airport tomorrow. Am skipping
out for Thanksgiving.</div>
