<br><p>ASSOCIATE OR FULL PROFESSOR (Ecology) </p>
<br><p>Position: Nine-month Professorship for an ecologist, starting
August, 2002 or later. Tenure track position. </p>
<br><p>Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Biology, Environmental Science,
or related discipline, broad training and research experience in ecology,
and demonstrated capacity for scientific leadership </p>
<br>Preferred Qualifications: Candidate will be evaluated with respect
to the following qualifications:
<ol>
<li>Research experience and accomplishments;
<li>Record of scholarly publication; 
<li>Record of graduate education and
undergraduate teaching; 
<li>Experience and potential for scientific leadership and collaboration; and 
</ol>
Individuals
working in any subdiscipline of ecology are encouraged to apply. We seek
an outstanding research scientist who will assume scientific leadership
for the <a href="http://sevilleta.unm.edu"> Sevilleta Long Term Ecological
Reseaerch project </a>, contribute to graduate training and collaborative
research activities at the <a href="http://www.unm.edu">University of
New Mexico</a>, and become actively involved in a broad <a href="http://biology.unm.edu">Department of Biology</a> that has faculty working at all levels from molecules
to the biosphere. </p>
<br>Job Responsibilities are to:

<li> Assume major responsibility and scientific
leadership for the Sevilleta Long Term Ecological Research project; 
<li> Maintain a strong, independent research program; 
<li>Be committed to excellent teaching at the undergraduate through graduate level; and 
<li> Be dedicated
to maintaining and enhancing the University of New Mexico's reputation
as a center of excellence in environmental and evolutionary biology.

<br><h3>Research: </h3>
<br>We seek an outstanding individual who complements the activities of
<a href="http://biology.unm.edu/Biology/faculty.html"> other
biologists in the Department.</a> Biology is a broad, integrative
department that enjoys and encourages cross-disciplinary collaboration.  The <a href="http://sevilleta.unm.edu/">Sevilleta LTER</a>
(part of the NSF-funded network of <a href="http://www.lternet.edu/">Long
Term Ecological Research sites)</a> offers excellent opportunities for
field research.  The University maintains a state of the art
<a href="http://sevilleta.unm.edu/places/fieldstation/">fieldstation</a> just 100 km south of Albuquerque.  The fieldstation facility is developed and maintained in close cooperation with the US Fish and Wildlife Service which has recently
completed a major upgrade to its facilities at the site. <a href="http://sevilleta.unm.edu/~bmilne/sev/sevfieldtrip.html">Take a virtual fieldtrip!</a> There are
also advanced facilities in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences for <a href="http://epswww.unm.edu/">trace element and radiogenic isotope
studies</a>.

A core <a href="http://biology.unm.edu/Biology/ghrose/molbio.html">Molecular
Biology Facility</a> is available to all members of the Biology Department. The facility is well staffed and provides access to automated DNA
sequencing and a variety of common use large equipment including ultracentrifuges,
oligonucleotide synthesis, gel imaging equipment, etc. The microscopy
facilities
within the Department include confocal, SEM and TEM. Plant growth facilities
are
available in the Biology Department's <a href="http://biology.unm.edu/Biology/greenhouse.html">Research
Greenhouse</a> 
The Department also maintains close association with the <a href="http://www.arc.unm.edu/Alliance/Background.html">Albuquerque High Performance Computing Center (AHPCC)</a> providing access to
supercomputer
capabilities and computational infrastructure. At the Albuquerque campus
of the
University of New Mexico are the <a href="http://hsc.unm.edu">School
of Medicine</a>
and University Hospital

research program that can involve graduate as well as undergraduate students.
