In this implementation (which is certainly valid), the organizationName is essentially additional info for Linda's creator element, like adding a position descriptor. We include a dedicated creator element just for the project, which provides a more prominent project attribution in external catalogs like KNB and DataONE.
Hi Gastil, Wade and Mark
Thanks for your feedback, below is our EML snippet which I thought the Data Portal would have picked up. We have organization name under both creator and metadata provider.
Mark, it would be great to know which other tags you are pulling organization name from for the citation. Perhaps there is also something in error in the snippet below?
Hi Hap,

We put the organization as the first of the creators along with the people creators (aka authors/owners). There are two kinds of creators, organizationName and individualName. The xslt that forms the HowToCite differentiates between individuals and organizations. See EML snippet below.
Hi Wade et al.

We have not experienced a publisher location request for any PIE LTER data citations, certainly doesn't seem necessary when a DOI is included.

On another note, I noticed that GCE and a few other LTER sites, AND, SBC and MCR have managed to get their LTER site name included in the Data Portal "How to cite this data package". What did you all do to your EML to get the citation to include your site or did you have to make a request to Mark/Duane to include it.

Thanks

Hi folks,

A GCE PI encountered the following issue when citing a data set in an ESA journal submission using the recommended LTER Data Portal citation format. Has anyone experienced this before? Publisher location seems irrelevant for a digital asset and defeats the purpose of a DOI, so my inclination is to push back and ask the publisher to justify this request. I suspect it's just about filling in a field in their citation system.

Any recommendations?
Hi Wade,
I cited a GCE data set as recommended

And the journal asked for "publisher location" where the question marks are located. Should this be "Athens, Georgia, USA"?

Also, if this becomes a common request (in this case from a journal of the Ecological Society of America") then I wonder if it would make sense to change our standard citation format that we provide.
