<div dir="ltr">Hi Kristin --<div><br></div><div>One thing we've been working on in terms of best practices for archiving code is a common-denominator metadata model for code, one that is shared across code repositories. The CodeMeta project (<a href="https://github.com/codemeta/codemeta/blob/master/README.md">https://github.com/codemeta/codemeta/blob/master/README.md</a>) has been working for the last year to compare existing approaches to software metadata, and to generate a consensus schema for use in documenting code. That schema is now very close to release, and has been put into practice at the Journal of Open Source Software (JOSS). We will also soon be working on supporitng it within the KNB and DataONE, and Zenodo has indicated they will support it as well. Take a look at the schema... and I'd love to see how well it works for your code library efforts.</div><div><br></div><div>Matt</div><div><br></div></div><div class="gmail_extra"><br><div class="gmail_quote">On Mon, Dec 5, 2016 at 4:03 PM, Kristin Vanderbilt <span dir="ltr"><<a href="mailto:krvander@fiu.edu" target="_blank">krvander@fiu.edu</a>></span> wrote:<br><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex">

<p>Dear IMs:</p>
<p><br>
</p>
<p>This is an update on the IM Code Library project that we talked about on the last VTC. Since that time, I have been in contact with ESIP leadership and have been encouraged to propose a session or working group on 'code repository best practices and policy' at
the ESIP summer meeting. It may be advisable to wait until after that meeting before we start populating the IM Code Library. </p>
<p><br>
</p>
<p>If you were thinking of submitting a proposal to have a working group in early 2017 to 'harden' some code related to a particular theme that would be useful to a number of IMs, please do go ahead and submit the proposal. Work on the code can be done early
in the year and then it can be submitted to the Code Library once we have best practices in place. Please submit proposals to me by Dec. 16.</p>
